2021 CSUN Assistive Technology Conference

Thirteen Years Less One!

It is time for the Annual CSUN Assistive Technology Conference! This is the 36th conference since its beginning. While that is an accomplishment just by itself, this year also marks a new milestone for the CSUN AT Conference – as with most conferences since COVID-19 began, this year’s conference will be all virtual!

Ken and I have been presenting together at CSUN since 2008 although not consecutively, but almost. In 2017 our marketing group missed the call for papers deadline to submit our topics. While this prevented us from presenting at the conference itself, we did attend the conference and were able to present an off-site luncheon presentation which was well attended! In 2020 we were not able to present because our employer decided to cancel due to COVID-19, which was the right choice for all involved.

Having presented at all but just two of the conferences over the last 13 years is itself an accomplishment for us. Since we did an offsite presentation in 2017, as noted above, I feel confident in claiming that as a presentation year as well. All total, we have led multiple presentations each year since 2008, except in 2020. That is a lot of presentations.

Our Presentations

Another notable milestone for us is that this will be the first year that we will be presenting at CSUN as Converge Accessibility!

Here are the topics we will be covering this year:

Aligning the Team Effort Toward Accessible Content

3/10/2021 @ 9:00 AM Pacific - Accessibility is a team effort. Learn the steps to create an effective organizational policy and how to align team members toward the same accessibility goal.

Web Accessibility – A Litigation Perspective

3/11/2021 @ 9:00 AM Pacific - This session reviews recent web accessibility cases from a litigation perspective and discusses everyday concerns of organizations in dealing with litigation risks.

Free Virtual Exhibit Hall

One of the exciting things about the CSUN conference is being able to gather in one location with other accessibility professionals and to explore the various new technologies and offerings at the exhibit hall. While attending virtually will not be the same, we are still excited about this year’s conference.

If you have not already registered for the conference sessions, you will have to wait until next year to do so. Yet you can still freely explore the Virtual Exhibit Hall! It is open from March 9th through March 13th. If you have never attended the CSUN conference in the past, take this year’s opportunity to visit the exhibit hall and make plans for attending in 2022!
